Zimbra advanced mobile device management with Scalefusion MDM

Zimbra 10 is natively supported in Scalefusion Mobile Device Management (MDM). When used together Zimbra and Scalefusion gives your IT teams visibility and control required to secure, manage and monitor any corporate-owned or employee-owned devices that access corporate data. This includes mobile devices (Android and IOS) and managed Windows devices such as laptops. In other words with Zimbra and Scalefusion you can configure conditional email access on a per user basis.

With Zimbra and Scalefusion an Administrator can

  1. Push mobile apps to enrolled users.
  2. Allow syncing of email/contacts/calendar only to managed devices.
  3. Remote wipe.

If your company provides mobile devices to the users you can manage the entire device with Scalefusion. You can also have the user install a container app on their personally owned device. In that case the container app becomes sort of a virtual device that is managed from Scalefusion. In both cases your company data will remain centrally managed and access controlled by Scalefusion.

Per user access controls include:

  • Block Email Access from IOS/Android mail client
  • Block Web Access
  • Block POP/IMAP Access
  • Block Email Access from Outlook client

For more details read the Scalefusion documentation.

Here is a demo video, that shows how to set-up Scalefusion with Zimbra and how it is used from the user perspective.

Hi, Thank you for your article :)
Can you explain how Zimbra and Scalefusion work together to provide visibility and control over corporate-owned or employee-owned devices accessing corporate data? What specific features or functionalities enable this?

      Hello Agnieszka,

The way it works is that the users connect to their email via Scalefusion using ActiveSync, Scalefusion will then connect to Zimbra on behalf of the user (also via ActiveSync). In Scalefusion the administrator can define policies, such as only allowing managed devices. In a bring-your-own-device scenario the user will need to install a `container` app that will allow the connection to the email in Zimbra.

Scalefusion enforces access controls by using Zimbra Admin API on port 9071 or (7071 legacy).

    Hi,

We dont use Scalefusion but we are interested.

Is this CEA limited to Scalefusion MDM users only? Or Can other MDM vendors also achieve this integration using Zimbra Admin API on port 9071 or (7071 legacy)?

Yes it can be implemented via the Zimbra API’s and ActiveSync.
