Continuing our “The Power of Search” PowerTip series, we bring you “The Power of Search Part 2: Visual Search”. Last time we discussed search bar commands. In this Zimbra User PowerTip, we will discuss how to use Zimbra’s visual advanced search.

Introduction:


In PowerTip "The Power of Search Part 1: The Search Bar", we discussed how to use search bar commands to find things for which you are looking. The Zimbra Web Client also includes a graphical search engine that helps you find that one document or e-mail that you’re looking for, without knowing all of the commands.

You can find the graphical search at the top of The Zimbra Web Client by clicking on "Advanced".


Attributes:


Once you select the "Advanced" option, you will presented with a toolbar of options. Let’s take a look at them:

The Basic Search applet allows you to define the basic parameters of your search. It is not necessary to fill in all fields.

“From” This can be an e-mail address, or part of a name. For example “Steve” or “Steve1620”.

"To/CC" Same as the "From" field. You can use a name or e-mail address.

"Subject" All or part of a subject line in an e-mail. For example "invoices".

"Content" Part of the message for which you are looking. For example "travel itinerary"

"Also Search Junk" Search the junk folder in addition to all other folders.

"Also search Trash" Search the trash bin in addition to all other folders.


The Attachments applet allows users to search for messages that have an attachment.

"No Attachments" Filter out messages that contain an attachment.

"Any Attachment" Display messages that only have any type of attachment.

"Specific Attachment" Display messages that only have a specific kind of attachment type. You must select at least one type from the list.

"Specific Filename" Display messages that only have a specific name. You must type in a filename.


The Date applet allows users to search for messages that was sent or received on a specific date, or date range. You can also add this applet multiple times for a date range.

"is before" Display messages that were sent or received before a specific date.

"is after" Display messages that were sent or received after a specific date.

"is on" Display messages that were sent or received on a specific date.


The Domains applet allows users to search for messages that was sent or received from a specific e-mail domain (for example aol.com).

"From" Display messages that were received from a
specific domain. You must select a domain from the list.

"To/Cc"Display messages that were sent to a
specific domain. You must select a domain from the list.


The Folders applet allows users to search for messages that are contained within a specific folder or folders.

Select each folder you wish to search.


The Saved Searched applet allows users to search for messages within another search that you have saved.

"From" Display messages that were received from a
specific domain. You must select a domain from the list.

"To/Cc"Display messages that were sent to a
specific domain. You must select a domain from the list.


The Size applet allows users to search for messages that are a size. The size includes the attachment (if any) size.

"is larger than" Display messages that were sent or received that are larger than a specific size.

"is smaller than" Display messages that were sent or received that are smaller than a specific size.

"kilobytes" Size in Kilobytes.

"bytes" Size in Bytes.

"megabytes" Size in Megabytes.


The Status applet allows users to search for messages that have a specific status.

"Flagged" Search for messages that have been marked as flagged.

"Unflagged" Search for messages that have not been marked as flagged.

"Read" Search for messages that have been read.

"Unread" Search for messages that have not been marked as read.

"Replied" Search for messages that have been replied.

"Forwarded" Search for messages that have been forwarded.


The Tags applet allows users to search for messages that have a specific tag or tags.

Select the tags that you wish to search.


The Time applet allows users to search for messages within a general time frame.

Select the time frame you wish to search.

The searches that you build can be saved for future searching. Each applet can be used in combination with another applet,
the possible search combinations are endless!
