Zimbra 5.0 RC1, Zimbra Desktop 0.58, and New Hosted Demo Have Landed!

We’re happy to announce that today, Zimbra Collaboration Suite 5.0 RC1 and Zimbra Desktop 0.58 are available now for download in both binary and source form under our new YPL license (FAQs). We’ve also gotten a ton of feedback from our users asking us for a hosted demo version of Zimbra 5.0.

We’ve also updated our hosted demo to 5.0 RC1 as well. It’s got some really awesome features that you can play with and use for an extended amount of time (just in case you don’t want to install RC1).

With the new demo, user accounts stay active for 2 weeks. When you sign up, you’ll get an e-mail in your demo inbox with a username and password. For the duration of the trial, you’re welcome to forward your e-mail from your existing service to the demo. If you do, you should keep a copy with your other mailbox, as your demo will expire in 2 weeks.

Why 2 weeks? We want you to be able to test all of the cool features of Zimbra to see how it’s going to integrate with your current network.

In the demo inbox, you’ll also find an e-mail with a downloads link to the connectors for Zimbra 5.0. The connectors available for download are Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 and iSync. Also available are the Zimbra Toasters for Macintosh and Windows.

Something new we’ve done, is to enable Zimbra Mobile. This means that you can test out your demo account with your mobile device.

Zimbra Desktop has been updated to 0.58, and you can also use that with your demo.

We’ve also released the anxiously awaited RC1 of Zimbra 5.0 for Open Source edition users. This latest build includes a whopping 603 bug fixes and enhancements!

Some of the new features include:

  • Improved WebDAV support
  • Better Briefcase support
  • Zimbra filters within Outlook
  • Publish Shared calendar as HTML
  • iSync Shared Address Books
  • Debian Etch 4.0 Support (Open Source Only)
  • Fedora Core 7 Support (Open Source Only)
  • Tasks Support in Standard/HTML Client
  • Image/Photo support for Contacts
  • Zimbra Desktop and Zimbra 5.0 RC1 are in alpha/beta (respectively) and are provided for testing only. We do not recommend users run these in production environments.

We hope you enjoy the newest demo and build of Zimbra 5.0, and if you have any questions or issues, please post them in our forums.
