Happy SysAdmin Day!

Is your website up and running? Are your emails flowing smoothly in and out of your mailbox? How about your cloud applications, are they available for your use? If so, give the IT team at your organization a high five for all the hard work they do to keep the website, email and applications running. Today is their day. Today is System Administrator Appreciation Day (SysAdmin Day for short)!

But wait, what exactly is SysAdmin Day? Oh, it’s only one of the top five greatest holidays of all time. Well, I’m the IT Director at Zimbra, so I may be just a tad bit biased. Here’s a quick background on SysAdmin Day – it started 15 years ago to pay tribute to the gallant men and women (often referred to as techies, IT pros or sysadmins) who work around the clock to keep IT systems running at full potential and fight critical company technical fires on a daily basis. You can learn more about SysAdmin Day here.

Honestly, it’s sometimes easy to take a system administrator’s work for granted. Many employees have the expectation that everything they use on a daily basis, at the office and on the road (from laptops to applications and services), will just work perfectly all the time. However, it is seldom the case that everything just works. System administrators are always monitoring, reviewing and on call. It takes continual effort and a love for technology to make sure that all services operate smoothly.

Zimbra understands the importance of system administrators. And our offerings aim to help reduce administration and maintenance. For example, our Zimbra Community product provides basic and advanced auto-moderation capabilities, taking some of the load off system administrators. Our product also provides configurable permissions for managing security and access requirements, allowing those outside of the IT team to delegate roles, become group administrators and make layout changes in a secure environment. Additionally, our Zimbra Collaboration product has an easy-to-use Web-based administration console that enables IT administrators to securely access the application anywhere, anytime. Through the console, administrators can easily manage access and policies for a diverse set of users in a large organization. Our company also empowers end users, reducing IT administration and support overhead while increasing end-user satisfaction. View more benefits here.

Our customers are also speaking out about the benefits of our product when it comes to IT. Our customer ZipRealty said, “Zimbra is the perfect collaboration platform for the cloud: a proven, scalable, cost-effective solution, Zimbra has simplified our IT and significantly improved the productivity of our users.” Our organization values the role system administrators play, and that is why we aim to make Zimbra’s offerings as hassle free as possible for system administrators. And for those of you currently using our Zimbra Collaboration product, or looking to implement, we also provide Zimbra Collaboration System Administrative courses that cover everything you need to know about installing, managing and maintaining our product.

Now that you have a good understanding of SysAdmin Day and why Zimbra celebrates it, it’s your turn to share. From meetups to happy hours to formal gatherings, there are numerous events being held around the world today in honor of SysAdmin Day. How are you celebrating SysAdmin Day or honoring the IT folks at your organization?

    Happy sysadmin day!

Today is time to relax, take a big double chocolate milkshake and take it easy for the rest of the day.

    Best regards
